An important update about GP access and how you use our services

Thank you for your patience and understanding during what continues to be a very challenging time for general practice. We know that changes to access, longer waiting times, and being directed to alternative NHS services can be frustrating, particularly when you are unwell or worried about your health.

General practice has changed significantly in recent years, with increasing pressures and limited staffing and funding. To keep patients safe and ensure GP appointments remain available for those who need them most, we must make full use of the wider range of commissioned NHS services now available. These services are trained to manage common conditions and can often provide quicker access to care.

Demand through our AccuRx online triage system has risen significantly, and on average, we are currently dealing with 486 requests per working day. Many requests do not require GP input or could be managed safely through other NHS services. This affects our ability to support patients with complex, urgent, or long‑term needs. We have attached an important document to this post that explains these changes, outlines the services available, and shows how we can work together to help keep GP care safe and sustainable. We strongly encourage all patients to take the time to read it.

Thank you for your continued support.
